"Welcome to the newspaper business" Those words still ring in my ears from a Wednesday night at a certain establishment in Beacon Hill over a year ago as Alexander Angerer MBA '10, Elizabeth McVay Greene MBA '10, and I agreed to take on the Editor-in-Chief roles for Fifteen from the 2009 class. Two months later, we were scrambling to get out the inaugural issue produced by the class of 2010 for February 2009. Ever since, we've had the opportunity to work with some great people and learned a lot about newspapers, Sloan student life, and what it takes to run a business, as Fifteen is an independent entity completely sustained out of our ability to fund ourselves and run our operations efficiently enough to continue printing our monthly issues.
Throughout our tenure, we've strived to inform and entertain the Sloan community with contributions from Sloan students, admits, alumni and administrators as well as our editorials and student life photospreads. Our hope is that our readers have enjoyed reading the monthly paper and have learned a thing or two about what's been going on in other parts of the community throughout 2009.
Alas, the Class of 2010's stewardship of the MIT Sloan student-run paper comes to a close with this issue. We want to officially announce and welcome the 2011 Editors-in-Chief for the next year of operations: Leigh Spoon MBA '11, Kip Pettigrew MBA '11, Brian Liu MBA '11, and Tara Thomas MBA '11. We look forward to seeing them continue Fifteen's tradition of excellence, executing the great new ideas that they've brainstormed (and the Sloan community will soon enjoy), and of course, providing any insight, advice, and feedback they request as we the 2010's become Editors-in-Chief Emeritus.
We want to thank first and foremost, Edith Chan at the Harvard Crimson and Julie Reilly for her layout work with some tight turnaround times. Without your help, the paper wouldn't have ever made it out.
And, we want to extend a hearty thank you to those students who have dedicated their time to becoming regular contributors to Fifteen: Anju Matthew, Taariq Lewis, Basmaa Ali, Jorge Camargo, John Marcus and Chuka Ikokwu from the class of 2009; Chris Kenney, Christina Ingersoll, Chizoba Nnamaeka, Thomas Kim and Pooja Goradia from the class of 2010; Leigh Spoon, Puneet Newasakar, Brian Lie and Gerry Hough from the class of 2011; and of course Alfred Sloan, whose advice column has helped many of us get through some tough semesters. Thanks go out also to all of our advertisers and the many other students, faculty, and alumni who have contributed content to Fifteen. Lastly, we want to thank you, the community, for your suggestions and for being our readers. If you have any ideas, please be sure to let the new Editors-in-Chief know, and if you're feeling real fired up about something, have an ad for an event that just needs to get out there, or a picture that's too good to stay in your memory card, send it to Fifteen!
Good luck Tara, Leigh, Brian and Kip!
