This Veteran’s Day, 25 members of the MIT Sloan Entertainment, Media & Sports Club ventured down to the Big Apple for the annual EMS New York Trek – and what a New York experience it was! Stops included 30 Rock (NBC Universal), Madison Square Garden (NY Knicks), and even Alice Cooper’s old rooftop rock n’ roll palace (now the offices of Dailymotion). (7) comments
The 2nd Annual MIT $100K Elevator Pitch Contest, the first in the $100K-series of three annual contests, kicked-off MIT’s Entrepreneurship Contest season with a bang. On October 18th, over 150 participants and nearly 350 attendees turned Stata Center into a hive of energy around entrepreneurship as participants shared their ideas and began forming teams. Shopping: an activity low on the priority list when our minds are reeling with FUD (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt) of losing student loans and the competition for that elusive banking job. However, even in this un-economical climate, one startup managed to win the hearts of thousands of customers who are evermore desperate for a good deal without sacrificing quality and brand. It’s called MercadoCasual.com and so far it has been a winning idea for Sloanies, Andres Blank and Ignacio Diaz, class of 2009. This week the pair beat over 800 competitors to take home second prize in the most prestigious business plan competition in Venezuela and possibly all Latin America: ‘Concurso IDEAS’. (0) comments
Spring course bidding is just around the corner, starting on December 1st for 2nd years. Oh yeah! We did it again. After winning the 2nd and 3rd spot competing against top 11 business schools students in the “International MBA Sales Competition 2008” another group of Sloanies did us proud. 2nd year students, Nishi Das, Craig Doescher and Kwasi Frimpong were the runners up in the Wharton Africa Business Plan Competition held last Saturday, Nov 8th 2008.
