Senate Election Read about your Candidates

Brian , Gerry and Nuno

It all started with a conversation: The Senate is a great place. How can we make it better? This simple question brought together Brian Liu, Gerry Hough, and Nuno Sanches e Silva to form a team to run for Co-Presidents of MIT Sloan's student body. As Sloan Senators during Fall 2009, Brian, Gerry, and Nuno witnessed first-hand view the importance of the Senate in connecting Sloanies with the administration and faculty: from bringing key issues to light (like Mark Ritson's future at Sloan) to providing responses to problems (Finance I during the Core). With the precedent already set, Brian, Gerry, and Nuno want to continue the tradition of the outgoing MIT Sloan Senate Co-Presidents by becoming the leadership team that taps into elements from all corners of Sloan's diverse and student body. From international origins to varied interests, Brian, Gerry and Nuno are Diverse, Involved and Responsible - and they are ready to defend the issues that matter to you the most, because it's Your Sloan, Your Senate. Energetic. Action-Oriented. Leaders. By bringing together our diverse backgrounds and abilities we have united as a team that is passionate about positively impacting the Sloan community. Committed to addressing your needs and concerns. After careful thought and conversations with fellow students, we've identified three specific areas where we can have an immediate impact on Sloan: • Careers - Working, in partnership with the CDO, to meet the needs of students, specifically those interested in less traditional business careers o Improving the utility of Career Central and resources library o Creating a 1-on-1 alumni career mentoring service • Communication - Improving communication lines between all members of the Sloan community o Creating one central, accessible Sloan calendar o Leveraging social media to increase awareness and collaboration • Classroom - Enhancing the academic experience and elevating the student voice in academic matters o Initiating an informal student-run feedback system for classes/professors o Promoting academic team diversity and collaboration beyond the Core Your vote is important. As current students and future alums we all have a vested interest in the success of Sloan. We are dedicated to improving your experience and strengthening the Sloan program. If these issues and topics are important to you, please vote for JJL. (1) comment

The Sloan community is full of great ideas about how we can improve classes, SloanPoint, and so on. This year, the Senate made good progress on implementing them; it upgraded the Idea Drive, got electronic distribution of class calendars, and organized the charity auctions. As candidates for Senate Co-Presidents, we want this progress to go into overdrive. But we don't believe that can happen as the Senate is currently organized. By refining the Senate's structure, we think we can get stronger results. Here's what the Senate would look like if we were elected: •? More prioritized - The list of things to be done is long and growing (check out our flyers if you want to see what we think should happen). Early on, we'd identify the biggest student issues, use laser-like focus to make the top few happen, and then work down the list. •? More accountable - With classes, recruiting, and activities competing for time, senate work can get delayed when other deadlines get in the way. We'll make sure that every Senator has clear deliverables and deadlines, so that their focus stays on the job. •? More transparent - How many of you actually know what happens in the Senate, or even what it does? Under our leadership, you'll know what we're doing, how we're doing it, and when it will be done. Vote for us for Senate Co-Presidents; we'll make your ideas a reality. (1) comment
